Turnout

The short version. Turnout has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no server of its own. Nothing you type is sent anywhere or stored anywhere except on your own device. Nobody, including me, can see where your field is or what your horse is called.

What stays on your device

All of it. Saved fields, their coordinates, your horse's name, coat, clip, turnout times and the laminitis risk answers are kept in your browser's local storage, or in the app's own storage on Android. They are never transmitted. Clearing the site data, or uninstalling the app, deletes them permanently — there is no backup and no way for me to recover them.

What leaves your device

To tell you the weather at your field, the app has to ask somebody what the weather is at your field. That means the coordinates of the pin you set are sent to the services below, each time a forecast is fetched. Nothing else goes with them: no name, no device identifier, no account, nothing about your horse.

These are separate companies with their own privacy policies, linked above. Like any web request, each will see your device's IP address. I have no access to any of it.

Your location

The app only reads your device's location when you tap Use my location, and only once per tap. It never tracks you, never reads it in the background, and never asks for it on its own. You can use Turnout without it by searching or dragging the pin.

When you do use it, the position is treated exactly like a place you searched: it becomes a saved field on your device, and its coordinates are sent to the services above to fetch the forecast and to find the name of the area. Nothing is logged by Turnout. If you'd rather not share your exact position, Android lets you choose approximate when it asks, and you can move the pin afterwards.

The search box never suggests a place, and the map opens on the whole world until you pick a field, so nothing in the app points at anybody's home.

The Android app

Turnout reminders are scheduled on your phone by your phone. The text is written when the app is open, using the forecast it already has, and delivered locally. No notification passes through a server, and there is no push service involved. Turning the reminder off cancels everything already scheduled.

Children

Turnout is intended for people aged 13 and over. It does not knowingly collect information from anyone, of any age, because it does not collect information at all.

Changes

If this ever stops being true — if analytics, accounts or advertising are ever added — this page will be updated before the change ships, and the app's release notes will say so plainly.
